This is a day for us to remember all those loved ones that were lost and everyone who suffered so much that day, ... It is a day to remember the first responders and all those who came to the rescue. And a day to remember all those who wear the cloth of our nation around the world, who protect and defend the freedoms and liberties that we so cherish.
Since joining President Bush's administration in 2001, it has been a profound honor to serve our nation, the magnificent men and women of the United States Navy and Marine Corps and those of the Department of Homeland Security. I am grateful to the president for asking me to continue serving our armed forces as the deputy to Defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
