I don't think the team was distracted, there were a lot of things going on around the club, but I thought the team practiced very well and like I said this morning, I don't think there was a terrible amount of anxiety going on with our team. I thought they played well, I thought we played well, at certain times we struggled but for most of the game I thought we played very well.
At this time of the year there is no sense of dwelling or feeling bad about what just happened. It's about answering. That's our quest for tonight is having the right answer. If we don't, then we put ourselves in a pretty major hole in a seven-game series. But I have no doubt about the team as far as how they have answered in certain situations. I believe we will get the right one tonight. That's all we are looking to do. You can't get too far ahead. We are looking to win one game.
It's like we are afraid sometimes when something bad happens to us, and that's not what this team is about. We have to rely on some of the experience that we have gone through. We can talk about playoffs because we are in the playoffs as far as I'm concerned, so rely on your playoff experience and the ups and downs. A couple of years ago we lived in that world for a couple of months. That's why I believe this team will get it done. It may not be pretty, but it will get done.
I knew there was going to be a ton of adversity and a lot of ups and downs, and that's what's happened. We've gone through some now for 41 games. Now we have to learn to fight through it and just try to find a way to get points. We are not in a situation where, and I'm trying to stress to the guys, don't look at the standings or projections or this, that or the other thing. We're taking it a game at a time and I think that really has to be our concentration. One game at a time and try to find a way to get points each and every game.
We talked about this as an organization before we started the season. We felt there were going to be some bumps and quite a bit of adversity coming through, and we've seen it. But it's a learning experience. We are going to have to learn to deal with it. We are going to have to have a better second half, and I believe we will.
We spent too much time looking back to a couple years ago. That's where we forgot what we are as a team. You know there are going to be pitfalls. You expect adversity, especially in the situation we were in. We were told we were the greatest thing since sliced bread for two years. Sometimes, the guys start believing it.
