I've always thought that if I stayed healthy, I'd throw myself into the mix at some point. But there is so much time left, anything can happen. I think I was leading the league in hits early last August, and Ichiro Suzuki ended up with 50 more than me. I don't want to start thinking about it or following box scores just yet.
One reason I am looking forward to playing is because of the misconception that the United States is going to take this as an exhibition rather than a competitive tournament, and that could not be further from the truth. If I wanted to just relax I would stay in Spring Training, play my four innings and then go play a round of golf. I want to win this thing.
I feel for him. He's a great friend and teammate. Knowing him, he's going to come out of it. Just relax, don't think and just cut it loose. It happens to everybody. I was telling him a few years ago we got to Mariano Rivera a couple of nights in a row and they were booing him in Yankee Stadium. It happens to the best.
