There has to be a path to citizenship for the people who are here now. They're not taking jobs away from Americans these are jobs Americans don't want.
California is noted for having some of the toughest standards, laws, protecting farm workers' rights. But the law enforcement is very lax on it, and I think nothing is going to change until the employers are held responsible for insuring these workers are being transported in safe vehicles.
In the last few years, various laws protecting farm workers were approved in California, thanks to the UFW. The Times doesn't make it clear that the constitution was changed in order to include those who work in agriculture-related fields, like packers.
