Like I said earlier, the movie is metaphorical for the world. Today we're seeing so many instances of monumental duplicity, ... I think that's the task, in a way, to show what an architect of duplicity this character is, in his simplicity, forthrightness and morality. It's a strange and wonderful study of how far a horrible lie can be taken in terms of a character.
The only way actors could breathe on the sound stage was through an air regulator. You couldn't get out, ... because the camera crew was literally bolted in. You can't get out you can't go up or down. It really brought home the visceral feeling of what those men were willing to put themselves through.
