It's just about making pitches and I can't right now. I'm not making pitches. It's just something I have to get through, and keep working on, and keep doing in between games. It's just something I never went through before. That's why the game is so great. We just have to keep going. As of right now, it's just not going very well.
When they started going over the itinerary, I told them I didn't want to do that. It wasn't about not getting ready. When I first committed, we didn't have all the information about how long we were going to be away. I just wasn't comfortable with that because of all the changes we've made. I wanted to be part of it here.
It's ridiculous. It's not like last year when I had to compensate for my hip and my shoulder. Now I feel great, and now everything isn't the same. The ball is moving the way I want it to, but something mechanically is throwing me off. I need to figure that one thing out. I've got two days to do it. Then again, I may get out there Tuesday night and it may just fall into place because it's a totally different ballgame.
No club with the best regular-season record has won a World Series since the 1998 Yankees, but these Cardinals are a more balanced team thanilast year's clubithat amassed a major league-high 105 regular-season wins before getting swept by the Red Sox in the World Series. You want to know why were better ... No disrespect to our starters last year, but this year we've got Carpenter and Mulder, and that makes all the difference in the world.
I give up one or two home runs a year and now I've given up two in the first week. They're not really taking any bad swings at what I throw up there. I'm sure people are saying I don't have anything left in the tank ... whatever. I feel like I've got enough to get people out. I just have to go out there and use it to the best of my ability.
