Steve Kinser - “I had to work the whole race tonight. I was struggling to get around the bottom. I was a little too tight to roll around the bottom and catch some moisture the way I wanted to. I got a little bit of a rhythm going. Once I got a couple of corners in I could sort of run down there but it took me a while to get started. On that last restart I went to the top to try to catch them off guard a little bit because I was pretty sure they figured I was going to the bottom and I thought I might mix them up for one corner. Then I just tried to hit my spots and it worked out well.”
Steve Kinser - “I was so tight standing up so early in the race that I was just having a hard time, ... As we freed up and got rid of some fuel I was a little better but I was still too tight.”
Steve Kinser - “The heck with the preliminaries, I want to win the main nights, ... We've been pretty good all the time. We keep plugging away in the top two or three in every show so that helps a lot.”
Steve Kinser - “I came here to learn and not to change the world,”
Steve Kinser - “I had a pretty good car, ... I got a little bottled up in Turns 1 and 2 a few times, but I think everybody was getting up there and getting tight. If you hit it wrong it would wad you up a little bit. Then I got to where I could work the bottom in Turns 3 and 4 and I had two grooves to work when we got to lapped cars. I had a pretty good way to go then.”
Steve Kinser - “I was glad to see Kraig win the Nationals the other night, ... I probably would have given him a pretty good race if I wouldn't have crashed (in a preliminary race).”
Steve Kinser - “We were really strong today and I think we proved that when I made a mistake coming out of the pits and had to go to the back of the lead lap. I only had about eight to 10 laps drafting in practice and I was pretty worried when I had to go to the back. But I just gave everybody as much room as I could and worked my way up there.”
Steve Kinser - “You can't run over the top of them, ... They're down in the fast part of the groove and racing themselves. The car was working good to where I could keep a little momentum. I would miss it once in a while and lose a little bit, but when I'd catch it right I could stay with them and get a run at them and get back in front of them.”
Steve Kinser - “I found the rubber first down in Turns 1 and 2, ... I searched around for it in Turns 3 and 4, I just didn't go down low enough. It looked blacker right in the middle, so I tried it there. I was still loose there so I started running the top. I just didn't go down low enough to catch it. If I would have gone down there I would have been all right. I didn't catch it until I saw Danny go by and it was too late then.”
Steve Kinser - “I just pretty much worked the bottom all night. It had some moisture down there. I started going into the middle of Turns 3 and 4 and the middle of Turns 1 and 2 to get some lapped cars, but other than that I just hung down low.”
Steve Kinser - “I knew I had a good car, ... Everybody we came to I could pass. The car would stick in the middle going in and come back and pick up the cushion. The car was getting off the corners better than it has in quite some time. It felt a little more like the car did at the beginning of the year. I had an exceptionally good racecar tonight. I could run the bottom in Turns 1 and 2 and I could run through the middle and back up to the cushion in Turn 3. When you're like that, crew chief Scott Gerkin and the guys did a great job.”
Steve Kinser - “I was just wanting to make sure we got somewhere in the top four to have a shot at winning the race on Saturday. With this caliber of guys, the closer you start to the front, the better your chances are.”
Steve Kinser - “I made a mistake but it turned out to be a good thing because it gave me more experience working the draft,”
Steve Kinser - “I was afraid it wouldn't make it the whole way around,”
