I suppose as you get older and you know you’ve had more dinners than you’ve got left, you realise that you can’t afford to waste the good things or the good times. Life is too short.

I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain. I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women — and OK, some men too — who will be taking my place.
These are my professional-athlete years. Professional athletes are always in rehab and playing hurt. That’s me at 70.
Age is a marker, but it’s not everything. What we’re capable of has a lot more to do with our determination, our creativity and our passion than the number of candles on the cake.
There just aren’t a lot of roles in general, roles for someone more specific to my age. I’m kind of in the middle, I don’t exactly look like a grandmother, but I don’t look like a leading lady in the more traditional sense.
You get older. You start seeing the beauty that’s in that process. You start trying to find love in that, find the beauty in that, which is completely different than being 21.
I’ve only ever learned things through experience, reading real books or talking to old people.
Your physical body might give out on you, or your brain, and maybe then you turn away from some objectives and you can turn toward others. You can be a hundred years old and take a very deep, mindful breath. That probably has its own challenges and rewards.
You can be 30 years old and live an amazingly exciting, interesting, fulfilling life, or you can be 60 and having a crisis.
