I don’t think the new female rappers really understand who I am. A lot of the girls that came before me, they really were those sexual beings, and I was so inspired by them. But I’m not like that, I’m more the goofy girl.
I think people who haven’t had children don’t realize what it takes for us to really step into some different shoes to stay connected to the woman.
What haven’t I had done? I had my face done, I had my eyes done, I had my nose thinned a year ago… I had a facelift six years ago. Every woman should do it before you should have it done, because then they don’t notice you’ve had it done.
When I was making my hit records, my ex was always ‘the genius’ and you felt like: ‘Well, who am I?’ You felt that small. I’m so glad I’m still on this Earth to see women going out there and saying: ‘You can be fabulous like me, you can do anything.’
I feel like the forgotten man. I made more movies directed by women and about women than any filmmaker, and I’m talking about 30 years ago. I’m not talking about now when it’s vogue. I did it first! I pioneered it!
If I’m proud of anything, it’s leaving behind me such a wide range of interesting, real women.

When I started out, all I wanted to do was write some songs, make some money and get some girls — not necessarily in that order, which was not unlike the majority of the guys in my neighborhood. Most of my early songs were written on some kind of truth of my own situation.
Of course, men know best about everything, except what women know better.
